Ask CMS to Fix Reimbursement for Medicare Recipients

Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) is considering comments on the Fiscal Year 2019 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Proposed Rule. This rule will set the reimbursement rates for bone marrow and cord blood transplants. Currently, financial losses incurred by transplant centers to treat approximately 1,200 Medicare patients each year threatens their viability and may result in serious access issues for Medicare patients. Patients who do not have access to transplant will face expensive, likely futile alternative treatment options.

We need you to ask CMS to treat bone marrow and cord blood cell acquisition costs the same way it treats kidneys from living donors and provide an adequate reimbursement rate for cell acquisition.

We strongly recommend that you personalize your comment letter by introducing yourself and describing why protecting access to bone marrow and cord blood transplants is important to you.
